Horse Riding might not be the first activity on your mind when you arrive at the Aphrodite Hills Golf Resort but it is actually a fabulous opportunity to appreciate the calm and beauty of the slice of Cyprus countryside which surrounds the Resort.
Hidden 3km into the hills above the resort this well run riding stable has been enjoyed by riders of all abilities for many years. I believe there are sixteen horses in residence, and those we met seemed well mannered and responsive. The horses range from Roger who is the biggest down to pocket sized Penny, a gorgeous shetland pony. The stables are run by Pat and her team who are extremely friendly and professional and managed to accommodate our two excitable riders (and their father) very easily. Our youngest, who started the holiday even being slightly shy of dogs, spent a while enthusiastically brushing Penny’s coat and followed up a couple of days later on a leading rein walking around the paddock on Penny’s back.
The team are very understanding of the experience and ability of their guests and will plan the ride accordingly. Our visit was fairly short and the riders stayed in the paddock but it was more than enough for a first time. Other more experienced guests will be taken out through the local countryside to enjoy Cyprus from a different angle. There are lots of wonderful things to do at Aphrodite Hills but don’t forget the Horse Riding, the 3 kilometre drive down a dusty track is really worth it when you get there.
